Murder Suspect Found In Polk County Jail

Guadalupe Osorio-Jaramillo

On Wednesday, January 25, 2012 a man was booked into the Polk County Jail under the name of Juan Martinez Garcia. A fingerprint scan at the jail was conducted and uploaded to the state wide Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) database.  Based upon an electronic match, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) analysts believed that the man may actually be Guadalupe Osorio-Jaramillo with a date of birth of 10/01/1972. FDLE notified the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Identification Section where our fingerprint analyst compared the prints and confirmed the man was, in fact, Osorio-Jaramillo.  A warrant for 1st Degree Murder was issued in 1997 for Osorio-Jaramillo and was served on him in the Polk County Jail on Thursday, January 26, 2012.  He is now being held with no bond.

Osorio-Jaramillo is one of two suspects in a 1997 Polk County Homicide.  The victim: Leobardo Ramirez, (DOB 7/13/58) was shot and killed.  Ramierez was at his residence (901 Lake Avenue, Haines City) when he was awakened by gunfire.  He went to a residence located at 1308 Highway 17/92 North in Davenport to ask two men there to stop firing their gun.  The victim exchanged words with both men about the gunfire.  A witness observed one of the men, Ernesto Estrada (DOB 09/07/1965), shoot Ramirez in the back.  The witness then observed Osorio-Jaramillo hit the victim in the head with a gun and shoot Ramirez several more times.   Suspect Ernesto Estrada is still at large with an outstanding warrant for first degree murder issued on 10/31/1997.

“This is a great demonstration of advanced technology helping us to solve crime and arrest criminal suspects.  Had it not been for our investment in AFIS technology, this guy could have continued to fly under the radar and avoid detection.  It is our hope that Osorio-Jaramillo will spend the rest of his life behind bars—and we have the original detectives who investigated the case, expert fingerprint analysts, both here and at FDLE, and advanced technology to thank.” —Grady Judd, Sheriff

LW Crime: Copper, Skipping Out On Tab & Found Pot

Lake Wales, Florida – Once or twice a week we post some of the more interesting tidbits of the Lake Wales crime report that is provided by LWPD. Often the crimes are quirky. This week installment isn’t as juicy as someone siphoning gas out of a hearse  or someone stealing a semi out of the Walmar parking lot. But you may find them interesting.

Is it time to put a security monitoring device on your outside air conditioning unit? It might be! Sometime in the between 11pm at night an 12:30pm someone stole Donnie Colvins copper out of his AC unit. Colvin reported his home AC Unit being stolen/ stripped sometime in between the above hours. Colvin lives on Dr. J.A. Wiltshire Ave.

Today around 1am a man went into Denny’s ordered a meal. Later on he simply left without paying the bill or tipping the waitress.

Police were called to the Garden Apartments yesterday in regards to a baggie of Marijuana being found by one of the residents. This really isn’t a big deal since in the last week another bag of pot was found in Victoria Secrets of all places!
