    Lake Wales Woman Crashes Into 3 Vehicles Fleeing Police

    Lake Wales, Florida – On Tuesday September 30, 2014 Lake Wales Police Officers received information a stolen vehicle was at the Walgreens located at 1903 Hwy 60 E in Lake Wales. The vehicle, a 2013 Chevrolet 2500 pickup, had been reported stolen to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and was spotted at Walgreens by a representative of the company the truck belonged to. The stolen truck was reportedly occupied by a white female and a black male. They were later identified as Jessica Marie Stewart, 23 of Lake Wales, and Willie Lee “Frog” Lawson, 60 also from Lake Wales.  …

    According to police reports an officer’s radar clocked a 2014 white Land Rover on I-395 south going 84 mph in a 45 mph zone, the officer followed the car onto I-95 north and pulled it over just as it passed the Fort McHenry Tunnel toll plaza. Police say Phelps was at the wheel and appeared to be under the influence. He was unable to perform satisfactorily on a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with DUI, excessive speed and crossing double lane lines within the Fort McHenry Tunnel on I-95 in Baltimore.     CDC confirmed on September 30, 2014, through laboratory tests, the first case of Ebola to be diagnosed in the United States in a person who had traveled to Dallas, Texas from West Africa. The patient did not have symptoms when leaving West Africa, but developed symptoms approximately five days after arriving in the United States. The person sought medical care at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas after developing symptoms consistent with Ebola. Based on the person’s travel history and symptoms, CDC recommended testing for Ebola. The medical facility isolated the patient and sent specimens for testing at CDC and…

Traffic Advisory : Please Avoid SR 60 E West of Lake Wales Road South As Train Tracks Are Damaged

This is a traffic advisory with requests for motorists to avoid traveling in the area of Highway 60 East, west of Lake Wales Road South. For unknown reasons at this time, a large portion of the train track which runs across Highway 60 in the east bound lanes has become dislodge from the main track creating a significant road obstruction. The portion of the track includes concrete with rails which are raised above the road. Deputies on scene report damage to several vehicles which have already struck the damaged tracks; there are no reported injuries. CSX will be responding to investigate the damage…
