Woman arrested after children found walking in busy road.
Amanda Marie Thomas, 30, was arrested and charged with two counts of child neglect after her two children were found walking down the middle of a busy road Saturday morning in Sebring.
The children, ages 2 and 4, were spotted walking down the middle of Memorial Drive near the Sebring Parkway around 10:15 a.m.
After deputies learned where the children lived, they went to Thomas’ home on Parkview Road, which is approximately a block from where the children were found.
Deputies said Thomas was on the floor, unconscious, and smelled of alcohol. When she was awakened, she did not know where her children were and expressed no concern when told where they had been found.
Deputies learned this was not the first time one of the children has left the house unnoticed by their mother. The children were left in the custody of their father, who was at work when the incident occurred.
Eight hours after the incident, Thomas’ blood alcohol level was measured at .152 on a breathalyzer test.
Thomas was booked into the Highlands County Jail and is currently being held without bond.
