Car Catches Fire After Crashing In Haines City Home

City of Haines City Press Release

HAINES CITY, FL – Haines City Fire Department units responded to an emergency call at approximately 1:51AM Saturday morning regarding a structural fire at a local residence located near the intersection of Kalogridas Rd and Miss Helen Rd. The incident involved a Chevy Camaro that had crashed into the front of the home, causing the engine compartment to ignite and the front wall and part of the roof to catch fire.

Upon arrival, Haines City Fire Department found the vehicle and the involved structure fully engulfed in flames. The occupants of both the vehicle and the home had evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire services. At this point Polk County Fire Rescue arrived and assisted with fireground operations. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) was also present at the scene, detaining the vehicle’s occupants for further investigation. There were no physical injuries to any individuals involved in the incident.

Firefighting crews successfully extinguished the blaze within approximately 30 minutes, preventing the fire from further spreading throughout the home. Although the front of the residence suffered significant damage, quick and efficient response efforts averted a total loss of the structure.

The cause of the crash and the subsequent fire is currently under investigation by local authorities. The Haines City Fire Department would like to remind the community of the importance of fire safety and to maintain clear and accessible escape routes within their homes.
