Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a two-car crash late Tuesday night, July 31, 2018, at the intersection of Hwy 27 and Hwy 98 in Frostproof, in which three people were injured.
The crash occurred at about 11:44 p.m., and the northbound lane of Hwy 27 was closed for about four hours for the investigation.
The most seriously injured person was 35-year-old Stacy Lee of Frostproof, the driver of a gold 2000 Pontiac Sunfire. She was airlifted from the scene and taken to Lakeland Regional Health in critical condition.
Lee’s passenger, 46-year-old Jason Williams of Orlando was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Florida Hospital Heartland in Sebring in stable condition.
The other car, a white 2017 Nissan Rogue, was driven by 26-year-old Nicolas Miller of Frostproof. Miller was treated at Florida Hospital Heartland and released.
According to the preliminary investigation, Lee was driving west on Hwy 98 and attempted to turn left (south) on Hwy 27, going through a red light.
Miller was travelling north on Hwy 27 and had the right-of-way as he was approaching the intersection.
Miller’s car struck Lee’s car on the driver side door.
Both Lee and Williams were not wearing their seat belts, but Miller was.
At this time, impairment is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash. Criminal and civil charges could be forthcoming, pending the outcome of the investigation.
