Man Stabbed To Death In Winter Haven

Update 5:20pm November 2, 2017 – The person who fatally stabbed Marvin Briggs is 41-year-old Theron Huggins of Winter Haven. Briggs drove Huggins to the Circle K (located at 1108 Spirit Lake Road in Winter Haven), and an altercation ensued between the two after Briggs parked his car at the pumps and they both got out.

Both Marvin Briggs and Theron Huggins have a history of arrests by law enforcement. Huggins has been in custody 21 times in the last 20 years in Polk County alone.

Huggins is cooperating with law enforcement. The investigation is ongoing, and no decision has been made at this point in time on whether or not Huggins will be charged.

Update 6pm: According to Polk County Sheriffs Office the person who was stabbed, was Marvin Briggs, DOB 02/12/1979, of Lake Alfred – he was taken to Winter Haven Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The adult male who stabbed Briggs is still in PCSO custody and being interviewed. He is not considered a suspect at this time.

The stabbing occurred after an altercation between the two men right outside the door to the Circle K store located at 1108 Spirit Lake Road in Winter Haven. The men knew each other.

This death investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE 1:07 pm – From PCSO: In response to your inquiries, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation regarding a stabbing that occurred around 11:10 a.m. today, November 1, 2017, at the Circle K store located at 1108 Spirit Lake Road in Winter Haven. The adult victim has been transported to a hospital. After a brief search for the adult male suspect who fled on foot, deputies now have the suspect in custody.

Winter Haven, Florida – We have multiple reader reports of an incident occurring near the Circle K on Spirit Lake Rd. & Winter Lake Rd (540). The incident appears to have started around 11am. Witnesses advise initially that a person was seen laying on the ground and multiple law enforcement officers were arriving on scene. Law enforcement K-9 units and helicopter air support is currently flying over the scene.

Polk County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer, Carrie Hortsman, has confirmed this is not a shooting incident.

At this time no further information is available from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. We will update you on this developing situation.
