Update 7pm November 13, 2016 – According to the Polk County Sheriffs Office 77-year-old Alfonso Diaz-Gomez, who was extricated from his vehicle and was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center due to his injuries, has succumbed to his injuries and been declared deceased.

Davenport, Florida -Around 3:05 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016, 49 yr old Manuel Andrade of Hialeah was operating a blue 2000 Peterbilt Semi-truck with an attached flat trailer, attempting to cross Hwy 27 from Richie Brother’s entrance and exit (Richie Road), to turn southbound onto US Hwy 27. This area is just north of I-4, in the Davenport area.
As Andrade was making his left turn to head south, 77 yr old Alfonso Diaz-Gomez of Winter Garden, who was traveling northbound on US Hwy 27 in his 1998 Red Chevy Silverado truck, ran into the flatbed trailer that was still in the northbound lanes of US Hwy 27 N. The truck caught fire after impact.
Diaz-Gomez was extricated from the vehicle and was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center due to his injuries. The passenger in the truck, his 74 yr old wife Juana Diaz, was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS. Diaz-Gomez is listed in critical condition at this time.
The semi driver, Manuel Andrade, was not injured.
