Bartow, Florida – Students who wrote award-winning essays will be honored by the Community Relations Advisory Council of the Board of County Commissioners at a breakfast event in Bartow.
The 15th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Challenge Breakfast will be held at the Bartow Civic Center, 2250 S. Floral Ave. at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016. In addition to the essay winners and Kathleen High School vocal ensemble Red Hot Voices, the breakfast will include greetings from County Manager Jim Freeman, Sheriff Grady Judd and School Board Superintendent Dr. Kathryn LeRoy. Commissioner Todd Dantzler and Equity and Human Resources Director Kandis Baker-Buford will host the program.
This year’s essay theme is “Remember! Celebrate! Act! King’s Legacy for our World.” The essays were written by Polk County students and were judged by Polk State College faculty.
