Lakeland High School Substitute Teacher Charged For Allegedly Having Sex With Student

A 20-year old substitute English teacher at Lakeland High School was arrested by detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit on Friday, December 10, 2021 after it was learned she had sexually battered a student (16-years or younger).
Ayanna Davis of Lakeland admitted to detectives that she had unprotected sex with the student on four occasions, twice at his house, and twice at her house. Her admission aligned with what the victim told detectives.
“This is a clear violation of sexual battery laws. She was in a position of influence over the victim, and she took advantage of that for her own twisted pleasure.” – Grady Judd, Sheriff.
The investigation began on Friday, December 3rd after an LHS student informed Lakeland Police Department School Resource officers about the existence of a video on Snapchat showing Davis and another student having sex. The student claimed the video was shown to a large group of LHS football players.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office was brought into the investigation after determining that Davis’ residence is outside of city limits in unincorporated Polk County.
Following their interview of Davis, PCSO detectives arrested her on charges of Sexual Battery by Custodian (2-counts, F1), and Offenses against Students by Authority Figure (F2). Davis was also served with the Lakeland PD warrant which charged her with an additional two counts of Sexual Battery.
Davis had first appearance on Saturday, December 11th where $60,000 in bonds were ordered against her for all five charges, and an arraignment hearing of January 10, 2022 was scheduled.
Ayanna Davis is not a Polk County Public Schools employee. She was working at Lakeland High as a substitute teacher with the staffing company Kelly Education Services. The company has been instructed that Davis is no longer able to work in any PCPS school site.
“We expect substitute teachers to uphold the same high standards of conduct and professionalism as our full-time educators,” said Superintendent Frederick Heid. “The charges against this person are disgraceful and a complete violation of the trust that teachers build with their students. There is no room in our schools for this type of conduct.”

Culpepper Cardiac Foundation Delivers Food to Fire Chief Jerry Riner and Frostproof Fire Department

by James Coulter

Fire Chief Jerry Riner and his staff at the Frostproof Fire Department received a pleasant surprise last Friday with a delivery of homemade meals and other food by the Culpepper Cardiac Foundation.

Melanie Brown Culpepper, the founder of the Culpepper Cardiac Foundation, paid a visit to the city fire department, where she delivered several boxes of homemade meals, including lasagna and fresh fruit like bananas and cantaloupe, all provided by Freedom Tour Church in Lake Wales.

During her visit, Melanie discussed her non-profit organization, which supports fire personnel and other EMTs within the county, raises awareness about heart health, and raises proceeds to fund the installation of AEDs.

She shared her story about her organization was startedfollowing the death of her late fiancée, Michael Brown, who passed away from cardiac arrest last year despite the best attempts of local EMTs to revive him.

Since then, Melanie has made deliveries to various fire stations throughout the county in Lake Wales, Winter Haven, and Haines City. Chief Riner was honored to have his station receive this goodwill, and he appreciated Melanie’s efforts to support local firefighters and other EMT personnel.

“It is a real good feeling knowing that someone out there has taken the time and effort to feed my guys here at the station,”Chief Riner said. “For everything that she has gone through and to still think about others speaks volumes of her personality. You can feel she has real dedication and devotion to this, and it shows gratitude for the fire personnel who tried to help her. Now she is going out to her community and other organization aroundPolk County.”

Associate Fire Chief Clifford Coffer likewise appreciated hearing Melanie’s message about her cause. He felt the Culpepper Cardiac Foundation was accomplishing good works within the local community, especially concerning his profession. He especially appreciated how she assisted his fire department through her goodwill.

“We feel this is a need for getting the word out to all of the public,” Coffer said. “We are very positive with her outlook on everything. I know a lot of [locals] are looking for AEDs, a lot of groups around Polk County. The best thing to do is to keep it going and keep it strong. It is very positive. Never give up.”

During her visit to the station, Melanie learned about the local history of the Frostproof community. In addition, she visited the Indian Burial Mound located outside the station and the Mister Chris’ Coffee Gallery & Depot across the street.

Melanie also learned about the current situation concerning the city fire department and its chief. Chief Riner has served for many years at the city and county fire departments; however, recently, he was given an ultimatum by the county to either work for them or the county. He was inevitably terminated from his position with the county.

Melanie admired his willingness to stand by his loyalty to his city and to maintain his integrity during the whole ordeal. Being able to assist him and his fire department proved to be a true honor that afternoon.

“Today was the most touching fire department visit I have been to,” she said. “I am very supportive of Jerry…I can feel the love and heart they have for the station and for everything they do being firemen and for standing up for what they believe in.”

Convicted Sexual Deviant Arrested For Allegedly Video-Recording Polk Teenage Girl Under 16 Through Her Bedroom Window & Other Charges

Polk County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) arrested a Bartow man Monday, December 6, 2021, after an investigation showed he had inappropriate contact with two teen girls, to include sending nude photos of himself to one, and video-recording another through a bedroom window.

46-year old Robert Scott of Bartow was charged with Video Voyeurism of a Child Under 16 (F2), Lewd/Lascivious Conduct (F2), Use of Communication Device to Commit Felony (F3), Transmit Material Harmful to a Minor (3-counts, F3), and Sex Offender Failure to Register (3-counts, F3).

Scott has been classified as a Sexual Offender by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement due to a 2003 Polk County conviction for Lewd or Lascivious Battery on a Victim 12-15 Years Old.
The investigation began Monday when it was reported to the PCSO that Scott had sent via cell phone two sexually explicit photos of himself to a female victim (16 or under), who he has known since September 2021.

It was then learned that Scott had also video-recorded another female victim (16 or under) through her bedroom window while she was undressing last week. Scott had also shown this victim pornographic material on his cell phone, and verbally told her that he wanted to engage in sexual activity with her.

During an interview with detectives, Scott admitted to his crimes, and acknowledged that he knew how old both victims are.

Detectives also learned that Scott had failed to fully comply with the registering requirements of his Sexual Offender Obligations by not reporting: a vehicle belonging to him, a new phone number, and a new Facebook account.

“A leopard can’t change its spots…and it’s obvious Robert Scott hasn’t changed his deviant ways. He is the kind of person we don’t want to be near children. Hopefully, he’ll be held accountable and sent to prison where he won’t be able to victimize children. He obviously did not learn anything from his first conviction and placement on the sexual offender registry.”” – Grady Judd, Sheriff
