Crash near Lake Wales results in one death and injuries to four others
A Friday morning crash near Lake Wales killed one person and injured four others.
Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office were dispatch at around 11:12 am on Friday, February 16, 2024, to the crash on County Road 640, about a ¼ mile east of US 27.
63-year old Gesner Souvernance of Lake Wales was found by first responders, deceased inside his vehicle.
Four others, three adult females and a female infant were taken to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Mr. Souvernance had been driving a silver 2004 Toyota Tacoma prior to the crash, while the other vehicle involved was a black 2003 Ford Explorer.
Based on evidence and witness statements, Traffic Homicide detectives determined that Mr. Souvernance’s Toyota was traveling west on CR 640 while the Ford was traveling east when it crossed over the center line and struck the Toyota head-on.
The crash investigation is ongoing and any charges are pending the outcome.
