Lake City Escaped Prisoner Crash Car In Winter Haven

An escaped prisoner from Lake City was captured in Winter Haven this morning after crashing a stolen vehicle he was driving.

On 12-3-17 at approximately 10 a.m., Winter Haven Police were made aware of a stolen 2016 white Chrysler 300 that was tracking through Lake Wales with suspected escaped prisoner, 20 year-old Devonte Bodison (DOB 6-27-17) from Lake City (Columbia County) inside. (I do not have the original charges on Bodison.)

With the assistance of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office air unit, the vehicle was spotted on First Street S traveling past Longhorn restaurant. The vehicle traveled along First St. approaching the downtown area where Bodison turned onto Ave B towards downtown. Winter Haven units were behind the vehicle, but kept a safe distance and did not make an attempt to pull him over due to the annual arts festival Carols In the Park taking place in the Central Park area.

Once the vehicle was past the downtown area officers activated their emergency equipment and made a lawful traffic stop on the vehicle at 3rd St and Ave D NW. As officers approached the vehicle, Bodison took off again where he got back to First St North and turned onto Ave O NE.

Bodison traveled along Ave O NE where he ultimately left the roadway striking a concrete lawn ornament causing the front wheel of the vehicle to come off. The car then flipped over on its side and skidded down the road approximately 20 feet where it came to rest in a yard. The car has a sunroof and Bodison exited the vehicle through the sunroof and ran into the yard of a home at the corner of Ave O NE and Fairfax Ave. where he was quickly apprehended by Winter Haven Officers Ryan Neely and Davendra Bharratt.

Bodison will be booked into the Polk County Jail on the following charges:

Possession of a Stolen Vehicle (F3), two counts of Fleeing to Elude (F2),  one count of Resisting Arrest W/O Violence (M1). one count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident With Property Damage (M2) and Columbia County DOC Escaped Prisoner charges.
