Update 9:40pm:
The suspect who was barricaded inside the home on 10th Street NE in Fort Meade is no longer barricaded. Deputies made entry and found him inside suffering from an unknown apparent medical condition (no trauma or injury). He is being transported to a local hospital.
PCSO will be serving a search warrant in the home to locate the firearm that was reported by witnesses.

Update 9pm :
In response to your inquiries. Polk County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an armed disturbance at a residence on 10th Street NE (cross street – Charleston Avenue North) in Fort Meade at around 4:00 p.m. this afternoon (Friday, Sept. 1, 2023).
Three adult males related to each other were inside the home when an altercation ensued. One of the males (the suspect) is armed with a handgun. The other two male family members were able to leave the house uninjured. The armed suspect remains inside alone, and refuses to come out.
The PCSO SWAT team has been activated. They are on-scene negotiating with the suspect to surrender peacefully.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the SWAT unit is currently on scene of a standoff going at a residence in Fort Meade. The incident, stand-off with barricaded suspect, appears to be taking place at a home on 8th St. NE.
The PCSO did not confirm if the suspect was armed, but it is believed he is armed.
The incident appears to have started sometime after 4pm. The PCSO has a large police presence on scene.
