Lake Wales, Florida – Officers received a call of a reckless driver driving the wrong way on Hwy
27. As officers and deputies were responding a Polk County Deputy
located a crash involving a white Altima and a semi. The driver of the
Altima, Randall Jackson of Lake Wales was driving south on Hwy 27, in the
middle lane, of the north bound traffic. Just south of Mt. Lake Cut Off Rd
the driver of the Altima collided with a semi who was traveling north in the
middle lane. Upon seeing the vehicle traveling south in the same lane the
driver of the semi, David Woodside, of Sebring tried to avoid the collision
by moving over to the inside lane. However, the driver of the Altima
collided with the trailer of the semi and later was ejected from the vehicle.
Jackson was flown by medical helicopter to Lakeland Regional for possible
life threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition.
