    On Monday, September 22, 2014 the Lake Wales Police Department School Resource Officers in conjunction with the Lake Wales Police and Fire Public Safety Cadets checked for under age alcohol compliance at local stores within the City of Lake Wales.  In all, fourteen stores were visited by our underage cadets of varying ages wearing plain clothes attempting to buy alcohol. Of the fourteen stores, ten did very well and were in compliance.  These stores were: Walmart, Winn Dixie, Sunoco (SR 60), CVS, Publix (SR 60), Gate, Publix (US 27), Racetrac (US 27), Walgreens (US 27) and ABC Liquors.     Single Car Crash Fatality

    On Friday, September 12th at approximately3:30 pm, Heather Ann McPhail was driving her 2002 Buick Rendezvous west on Central Avenue between U.S. 27 and S.R. 60. She lost control of her vehicle and ran off the road striking an oak tree.  Mrs. McPhail died on scene as a result of the injuries she sustained from the impact.  There was no one else in the vehicle and her vehicle was the only one involved in the crash. Mrs. McPhail was 24 years of age and from Alturas.  Officers were able to locate and notify her family. This is an ongoing investigation. …

    Burglary Suspects Kick In Door of Lake Wales

    Lake Wales, Florida – An alarm call at a home on W Lake Wales Rd S around 1:45pm today lead PCSO to a burglary scene. Deputies arrived & saw door kicked in. A witnesses was able to give deputies a description of the suspect vehicle.  Currently deputies are searching for the vehicle.  Crime scene investigators are processing the scene. At this time further details have not been released.  We will update this article if more information becomes available.

This is a traffic advisory with requests for motorists to avoid traveling in the area of Highway 60 East, west of Lake Wales Road South. For unknown reasons at this time, a large portion of the train track which runs across Highway 60 in the east bound lanes has become dislodge from the main track creating a significant road obstruction. The portion of the track includes concrete with rails which are raised above the road. Deputies on scene report damage to several vehicles which have already struck the damaged tracks; there are no reported injuries. CSX will be responding to investigate the damage…
