On Monday, March 11, 2024, at approximately 6:34 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 1850 Cambridge Cove Circle for a shooting which just occurred. Officers arrived within two minutes to find two persons were struck by gunfire. Lakeland Fire Department and Polk County Fire Rescue all arrived on the scene to begin life-saving measures. One of the victims was a three-year-old child who was declared deceased at the scene. A second victim was transported to Lakeland Regional Health with non-life-threatening injuries. A third person with gunshot wounds was dropped off at Lakeland Regional Health by a personal vehicle and was later declared deceased.
Over 25 officers and detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. It appears at this time that all parties are familiar with each other. Details are limited at this time as we are early in the investigation.
