Handful of Polk County Doctors Take Low-THC Cannabis Continuing Medical Education Training

medical-marijuana

Polk County Florida – Today Tuesday, January 3, 2016 Florida’s new medical marijuana amendment goes into effect. It means more people can use the drug and more potent strains are becoming legal. Eight Polk County doctors have been certified and more are being certified each day.

The constitutional amendment, which was approved by 71 percent of Florida voters, allows higher-strength marijuana to be used for a wider list of medical ailments. However, the true measure of what the amendment means won’t be immediately seen until a new set of rules are adopted and implemented by the Legislature and the Department of Health. A study found that there would be an estimated $1 billion in Florida medical marijuana sales by 2019 and surpass Colorado within four years.

What the amendment does

It allows the use of medical marijuana for people with debilitating medical conditions as determined by a licensed physician. In 2014, the Legislature approved the use of low-THC and non-smoked cannabis for patients suffering from cancer, epilepsy, chronic seizures and chronic muscle spasms. It was expanded last year to include patients with terminal conditions under the Right to Try Act and allowed them to use higher strains.

How patients can obtain marijuana

Patients must be under the care of a licensed physician who has completed the required eight-hour course and examination for at least three months.

Where can patients obtain medical marijuana

Currently no dispensary is located in Polk County. Knox Medical in Orange County and Surterra Therapeutics in Hillsborough County are the closest to Polk.

Here is a list of the Polk County doctors that have completed the 8 hour training.

The Farmer Family Has But One Mission “To Prepare And Bottle The Finest Wines For You To Enjoy!”

The Farmer Family has but one mission; “to prepare and bottle the finest wines for you to enjoy!”
But their mission isn’t complete until that bottle of hand-crafted premium wine is un-corked, its aroma smelled and its taste enjoyed.
Fiddlers Ridge Farms and Winery is based in Lake Wales Florida and is a local treasure. Company founders Gary and Cindy Farmer have been in the agriculture industry for over 30 years.
Following their namesake, the Farmer family started decade’s earlier budding and grafting citrus trees for Florida orchards. While busy with the trees, they soon began growing fruit crops-especially warm weather Florida blueberries.
Their expertise and success in growing blueberries led to a large surplus during one season and Gary, always up for something new, used this surplus to create his very first bottles of blueberry wine. The Farmer family and their friends loved Gary’s creation so much that it soon became apparent that Gary was on to something.
Today, Fiddlers Ridge Farms and Winery produces seven different wines, all hand-crafted using only Florida fresh and local ingredients. The lineup includes honey, peach and of course, their most noteworthy blueberry wine.
The Farmer family invites you to stop by and sample their wine at their wine-tasting bar and maybe pick-up a gift basket for friends or family.
Fiddlers Ridge Farms and Winery is located on the west side of US Highway 27, in the Longleaf Business Park, approximately two miles south of State Road 60 at 1750 Longleaf Blvd. Suite#4 in Lake Wales Florida.
They’re open Tuesday thru Saturday from 11AM to 6PM

COOKING ON THE RIDGE: White Bean Chicken Chili

COOKING ON THE RIDGE: White Bean Chicken Chili

whitebeanchickenchili

“This recipe was passed down from a friend, and now it is one of our favorites! It’s great to make whenever there is left over chicken or turkey around! We pray for colder weather in California just so we can make this soup! You can substitute additional diced tomatoes for the tomatillos. If you would like the soup to be spicier, you can add some red chili flakes or salsa. Serve with these toppings for people to choose from: limes, cilantro, cheese, avocado, sour cream, and tortilla chips.”

Argument Between Two Women Leads To Gun Allegedly Being Pointed At Victim In Lake Wales

0

Lake Wales, Florida – On December 28, 2016 warrants were served for the arrest of two men who were involved in an incident in Lake Wales. The suspects were both arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

According to court reports on December 22, 2016 a verbal altercation took place between Treska Burnham and Indya Williams over the phone. The argument originally started as Williams was talking to her ex-boyfriend Juwane Smith. At one point Treska Burnham allegedly got on the phone and told Williams she was “Soft” to which Williams allegedly told Burnham that her kids were ugly like her. This allegedly prompted Burnham to advise Williams she was going to ride up on her and “beat her ass”. Approximately  30 minutes later Burnham, Smith, Deshon Morris and another black female name “Ruby” did allegedly drive to Williams home on J. A. Wiltshire Blvd.  At this time Burnham, Smith, Morris and “Ruby” all exited the car.  They were met by Williams aunt who tried to diffuse the situation and tried to get them to get in their vehicle and leave.

According to an arrest affidavit Indya Williams brother Diquan was also at the residence and was outside making sure nothing happened to his aunt or his sister. Allegedly Morris said something to Diquan Williams and this prompted Diquan Williams to respond back. Allegedly that is when Morris and Smith both turned around and started to approach Diquan Williams threatening him that they had guns. Williams advised he was in fear for his life as Morris and Smith were allegedly known to carry weapons. According to both Indya Williams and Diquan Williams a gun was taken out of the waistband of Morris’s pants by Morris and pointed at Diquan Williams. Shortly after this occurred Morris put away the gun and allegedly fled the scene being led to believe that police were in the area.

Both men had first appearances December 29, 2016. Morris was issued a $2500 bond and Smith was issued a $1500 bond. Next court appearance for both men is January 31, 2017.
