Young Autistic Boy Found Wandering Bates Rd. In Haines City

0

Haines City, Florida – Early Wednesday evening a young boy, believed to be 5-6 years old, was found wandering down Bates Rd. Some caring citizens called Haines City Police.

The boy was taken to the police department. According to Haines City Police Chief, Elensky, no one has reported him missing. The child is autistic and appears in good health. They have conducted a ‘reverse’ 911 call to citizens in the area and no feedback yet. Department of Children & Families is at the police department now to take custody of the child. Detectives were called out to start knocking on doors and try to figure out who is his mom and dad.

Shortly afterward the Haines City Police Department was contacted by the Polk County Sheriffs Office regarding parents reporting a missing boy. That boy turned out to be the little boy that was found wandering along Bates Rd. (this area is partially in the county jurisdiction). The boy is actually 8 years old.

Law enforcement along with Department of Children & Families (DCF) went and visited the home & the parents. The dad had went out twice to take out the trash. The home, which was clean and in well order, has special locks, but the dad failed to use them when taking out the trash. The boy slipped out when the dad was not paying attention. It was not immediately noticed that the boy had gotten left the residence. Neither parent has any criminal background. The boy is in very good and healthy condition. Both parents were visibly upset.

Currently no criminal charges were filed, but DCF is involved and will likely continue to follow up with incident that occurred.

Editors note: This was a scary situation, but thankfully a happy ending. Kudos to those that found this boy and contacted authorities and cared for the child until they arrived. Please also be careful in the judgement of the parents. They had contingencies for this occurrence, but accidents do happen. It’s difficult to judge if you have never cared for a child with autism.

Man Crash’s Stolen Truck In Retention Pond Attempting To Flee Lake Wale Police

0

Lake Wales, Florida – On October 7th Lake Wales Police Responded to a report of a stolen pick up truck. The victim was a local young lady that had parked the truck near the Kohl’s Department Store and The Holiday Inn in Lake Wales. They eventually were able to locate the truck and apprehend a fleeing suspect, but not before he crashed the truck into a retention pond and stole all of the young ladies belongings.

Here is an excerpt from the Lake Wales Police Department arrest affidavit, the victims name has been removed and replaced with “victim”: On October 7, 2018 at approximately 2300 hours, I responded to the Holiday Inn Express in regards to a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, I made contact with the reportee,  in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express. The victim advised me that her vehicle was parked at 2030 hours on the north side of Kohl’s department store. The victim vehicle is a 2001 Dodge Ram Ext. cab white in color. The victim said she last saw her truck at 2130 hours. The victim said when she checked on her vehicle at 2240 hours, the vehicle was no longer there. The victim said she remembered locking her truck doors. The victim also had her keys and the only other people who had keys were her parents. The victim made contact with her parents who advised they didn’t have the truck and that they still had possession of the truck keys. At the location where the truck was parked, there was no evidence of forced entry as in broken glass. The victim also advised that the vehicle was very low of gas.
Other officers and I went to the surrounding businesses in the attempt to recover video footage of the area. We also went to the gas stations in Lake Wales to see if a vehicle matching the description attempted to get gas but was negative in locating any footage.

The truck was then entered into CIC as stolen and a BOLO was sent out.
At approximately 0135 hours, Officer Elrod advised he was behind the stolen vehicle at the motel parking lot at Central Ave and Hwy 27. Officer Elrod activated his emergency lights and sirens. I responded to the scene and as I arrived, the driver of the stolen vehicle, later identified as Jason Nichols, was stopped and Officer Elrod was outside of his vehicle giving commands. Officer Elrod and I had our emergency lights activated. Moments later, the driver accelerated and fled south through the parking lot. I gave chase to the end of the parking lot where Nichols left the parking lot and drove into a retention pond. Nichols attempted escape came to a quick end when he crashed into a pine tree causing the truck to become inoperable. Nichols then jumped out of the truck through the passenger side and then fled on foot. I gave chase on foot and Nichols ran into the next parking lot and then into a retention pond. Due to the overgrowth of weeds and trees, I was unable to visually see Nichols. I drew my department issued firearm and began giving commands for Nichols to raise his hands and surrender. Nichols failed to comply with my orders. When Officer Elrod arrived, we walked into the retention pond and took Nichols into custody. I searched Nichols and located a glass pipe with a white crystal like substance inside of it. The substance inside the pipe was analyzed with a Sirchie #15 field examiner and received positive preliminary results for methamphetamine. Nichols was arrested and placed into Officer Meyers’ vehicle.

I returned to the truck and observed the passenger door lock had been punched. I looked inside the truck and on the driver side floor board was a flat head screw driver. The ignition to the truck had been busted where Nichols used the screw driver to crank the vehicle. I made contact with victim,   and she advised that the screw driver was not hers and it was not in her truck when she parked it.
I checked Nichols information through DAVID and discovered Nichols’ license was revoked on September 21, 2005 and had four (4) prior convictions for DWLSR.
Nichols is being charged with the following;
-Grand Theft Motor Vehicle
– Possession of methamphetamine
– Possession of paraphernalia
-Resisting officer without violence
-Possession of burglary tools
– Flee Elude LEO with lights and sirens activated
– knowingly drive while license suspended or revoked 3rd or more times
-Leaving scene of crash with property damage.

Nichols was transported to Lake Wales Medical Center to be medically cleared. Nichols was later transported to Polk County Jail.

The suspect Jason Nichols, DOB: 9/6/1987, was out on bond awaiting a court date October 30, 2018 for his other Grand Theft Auto charges. The personal items of the victim were not located and the truck is potentially totaled. Nichols is currently in the Polk County Jail.

Editor’s Note:  As the dad of a teenager with an older vehicle, this cannot just be replaced. Unfortunately if it was a good running vehicle it is essentially worth much more than the book value. Insurance just doesn’t cover the loss. Also the loss of the victims personal belongings is extremely sad! We are outraged at this type of case and our prayers are with the victim.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

On the morning of Tuesday, October 10, 2018, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged 49-year-old Larry Washington for intentionally hitting another man with a truck following an argument. The attack left the victim, 32-year-old Herminio Rivera, with an open leg fracture and in stable condition.

Washington and Rivera both reside in a group home at 2899 Dudley Drive in Bartow.

According to the arrest affidavit, Washington told detectives that he and Rivera had been riding around Bartow, drinking and smoking marijuana. The pair went to a park located at 2901 Dudley Drive, in Gordon Heights (Bartow), to smoke more marijuana.

Washington said that the two men got into an argument, and Rivera hit him with a metal rod, and began to run away.

During the interview with detectives, Washington admitted that he went after Rivera in a truck and intentionally hit him with it, and when he gets out (of jail) he is going to kill him (Rivera). He added that the only reason he stopped from killing him at the time was because his truck got caught on a fence.

Detectives noted that a chain link fence and tree were damaged, and a park bench was destroyed. A metal rod was also found at the scene.

“If someone is beating you with a metal rod, you have every right to defend yourself. But if that person hits you and runs away, call 9-1-1. Don’t try to run him down with your truck. It’s not only nuts, it’s illegal. It’s attempted murder.” – Grady Judd, Sheriff

Detectives have not been able to interview Rivera due to his condition at the hospital, and the investigation is ongoing.

Larry Washington was arrested and charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder (F-1). His prior criminal history includes nine felony and eleven misdemeanor charges (Vehicle Theft (2), Cocaine Possession (3), Burglary, Felony Battery, Cruelty to a Child, Domestic Battery, Battery, Resisting (4), Escape, Assault, Loitering, Trespassing (2), Probation Violation (3), Filing False Police Report, Uttering Forged Instrument, Driving with Expired License, and Failure to Appear. 13 Men Arrested In “Operation Cyber Guardian Fall Haul” Trying To Meet Up With Children Allegedly To Have Sex

Polk County Sheriffs Office Press Release

Operation Cyber Guardian Fall Haul News Conference

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office will be having a news conference today, Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., where Sheriff Grady Judd will discuss a recent undercover operation targeting on-line child predators.

PCSO undercover detectives conducted a six-day undercover traveler operation from October 2 through October 7, 2018. Detectives posed as girls and boys online—on social media platforms and on-line dating sites—to investigate those who prey upon and travel to meet children for unlawful sexual activity.

The suspects communicated with and solicited who they thought were children between the ages of 13 and 14 for sex acts. They all showed up to a location in Polk County at separate times to meet who they thought were children, many of them bringing condoms and lubricant, but instead were greeted by detectives.

Thirteen arrests were made including one man who said he knew he was HIV positive and solicited a boy who he thought was 14 to engage in unprotected sex. Others arrested include a former military police officer who had been previously arrested, convicted, and is on federal probation for lewd/Lascivious Molestation of a child; a Lake Mary man who was arrested in Seminole County in November 2017 for obscene communication with a minor, a man who brought a new I-Phone 8+ as a gift along with sex toys, condoms, lubricant, and male enhancement pills; a cook at a Disney resort; and a food runner at Disney restaurant. Those arrested include men in their twenties, thirties and fifties. The men arrested were from Kissimmee, Montverde, Lake Mary, Davenport (2), Winter Haven, Orlando (6), and Holiday.

“These predators are out there, trying to sexually seduce and violate children. They lurk in chat rooms and online, ready to groom children for sex. Fortunately, because of the great work of our detectives, at least 13 of them won’t be doing that any time soon. The things that these predators say to children they believe are 13 and 14 are vile and disgusting. Even seasoned, trained detectives are repulsed. The bottom line is that these predators need to be locked up and kept away from children.” – Grady Judd, Sheriff

The 13 arrested face a total of 58 charges (57 felonies, 1 misdemeanor) which include: attempted lewd lascivious molestation, using a communication device to commit a felony, attempted uninformed HIV infected sexual intercourse, traveling to meet a minor for the purposes of sex, attempted lewd battery, and transmitting material harmful to a minor.

Winter Haven Man Arrested For Threatening To Kill Liberals & Any Congress Person Who Votes Against The Confirmation Of Judge Kavanaugh

Polk County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

On Wednesday, October 3, 2018, PCSO detectives arrested 53-year-old James Royal Patrick, Jr., of Avenue C NE in Winter Haven, for one count written threats to kill or injure (F-2).

PCSO received an email tip at 11:00 a.m. that day advising that a man named James Patrick was posting numerous threatening remarks on his Facebook page, which is open to the public. The threats were made on September 22, 24, and 29, 2018. The threats were he was going to shoot members of Congress and their families depending on which way the Supreme Court justice confirmation vote went, and any local or federal law enforcement that responded to his home. He said, “I can tell it seems I will be sacrificing my life for my country. But I am ready and will know who needs to be killed after the vote to put Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court.”

Detectives conducted an investigation, and obtained an arrest warrant and a search warrant, and took the suspect into custody at 4:00 p.m. that same day.

“Within five hours of receiving an email tip about the posts, our detectives investigated it, obtained an arrest warrant and search warrant, and took the suspect into custody without incident. People need to calm down, and stop making threats of violence – we will not tolerate it. Anyone who threatens to kill a public officer or law enforcement officer will go to jail.” – Grady Judd, Sheriff

According to the affidavit, the threats included the following statements:

• “Just bought 12 boxes of hollow point 50 caliber bullets….have plenty of ammo for my sniper rifle and bought a suppressor. Have made sure all my arrangements have been made and care for my dogs because I will not be coming home. Have made extra precautions and added more supplies in the tunnel under my house in case local or federal law enforcement tries to stop me.” (note – there are no tunnels under his house)

• “Getting ready if Kav is not confirmed….whoever I think is to blame may God have mercy on their soul.”

• “Just cleaned out the gun shop where I get guns, ammo, and target practice. Bought all their 50 cal hollow points. I expect to be confronted and I will be ready to kill and ready to die.”

• “I am about to accept an offer on my house just to get more money to fund my plan to kill Democrat office holders and their families. It is all I think about night and day. I even wake up in the middle of the night, most nights, thinking about it. Ultimately I will be killed but hopefully I will have killed many many liberal [sic] elected in Washington.”

• “I can tell it seems I will be sacrificing my life for my country. But I am ready and will know who needs to be killed after the vote to put Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court. I believe democrats need to be afraid to do what they are doing right now and weak republicans that do not vote for him need to pay with their lives.”

• “I can’t do this by myself! Need more conservatives going into liberals’ homes at night killing them in their sleep!”

His Facebook page also contained photos of him, along with photos of guns and ammunition. Deputies positively identified Patrick and obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody at his home around 4:00 p.m. without incident. He admitted to posting the comments, and said he just wanted to annoy liberals by making “crazy statements.” He said he had no intention of carrying out the threats, and he didn’t threaten a specific person by name so he “thought he could get away with it.”

A search warrant for the residence was obtained, and during the search deputies seized a 308 hunting rifle with scope, a 50 caliber Desert Eagle handgun, ammunition for both, numerous receipts from local gun shops, and several used targets.

He remains in the Polk County Jail on $500,000 bond. His criminal history includes a prior arrest in 2009 for simple battery.

Here are the photos of the firearms and ammunition found in his home:
