One person was killed and two others were critically injured in a two vehicle crash on County Line Road near Pipkin Road in Mulberry Tuesday, July 31, 2018.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at around 11:56 a.m. Killed at the scene was 19-year-old Ashley Salcedo of 555 Dean Street, Mullberry.
Salcedo was the driver of a black 2014 Hyundai Sonata. Her passenger, 20-year-old Angel Martinez of 9709 Bryant Road, Lithia, suffered critical but non-life threatening injuries.
The other vehicle involved was a white 2014 Cadillac ATS, driven by 28-year-old Jennifer Holley, of 4828 N. Dossey Wood Court, Lakeland. Holley suffered two broken legs and it took an hour for emergency rescue crews to extricate her from her car.
According to the preliminary investigation, Salcedo’s car was southbound on County Line Road, in the far right lane, and suddenly crossed the left lane and median, then entered the left northbound lane and struck Holley’s car head-on.
At this time, there is no indication of impairment by either driver. Further investigation is needed to determine if speed or distraction contributed to the crash.
It was determined that Holley was wearing her seatbelt, but it is not known yet if Salcedo or Martinez were wearing theirs.
Southbound lanes of County Line Road were closed for two hours, while the northbound side was closed for three hours during the investigation.
