Come join the Lake Wales Police Department at Bob Evans this weekend to help us raise money for Special Olympics Florida athletes. This Law Enforcement Torch Run, TIP A COP event is this Saturday and Sunday, March 5th and 6th at Bob Evans Restaurant, 23269 US 27 in Lake Wales.

At approximately 4:30 pm, on Friday, February 26, 2016, 18-year-old Dominique R. White of Auburndale was traveling eastbound on Recker Highway in a purple, 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier and was slowing down as she reached the intersection of McKean Street in Auburndale.

At approximately the same time, 50-year-old Samantha La Vonne Hienerman of Winter Haven, was traveling westbound on Recker Highway and was approaching the intersection of McKean Street, she was driving a silver, 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser.

50-year-old Lemoine Charlemond, of Winter Haven, driving a green, 2000 Toyota four-door, was also headed eastbound on Recker Highway and was behind White in her Cavalier.

For unknown reasons, Mr. Charlemond suddenly veered to the left as he approached the Cavalier and entered into Hienerman’s lane of travel.

Mr. Charlemond’s Toyota struck Ms. Hinerman’s Toyota FJ in an offset head on collision. Mr. Charlemond’s Toyota was redirected backwards and started to rotate. Mr. Charlemond’s Toyota came to rest on top of the back of Ms. White’s Cavalier, which had come to a stop at the intersection. Ms. Hinerman’s Toyota FJ rotated and came to rest facing eastbound in the northwest corner of the intersection.

Polk County Fire Rescue responded to assist. Mr. Charlemond was entrapped in the vehicle initially. Once he was extricated, he was taken to Lakeland Regional Health by ground. However he was declared deceased upon arrival. Both Ms. Hinerman and Ms. White were also taken by ground to LRC. Ms. Hinerman is currently listed in critical condition. Ms. White is listed in stable condition.

Mr. Charlemond and Ms. Hinerman both appeared to be wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. It is unknown at this time if Ms. White was wearing her seatbelt. Airbags deployed in Mr. Charlemond’s Toyota and in Ms. Hinerman’s Toyota FJ.

Initially, impairment does not appear to play a role in this crash. It is unknown if distracted driving was a factor at this time.

Recker Highway and McKean Street were closed for several hours during the investigation.

February 18, 2016 – Keep Polk County Beautiful, Inc. in partnership with Polk County Board of County Commissioners is bringing their “Clean It Up to Green It Up” Program back to Un-Incorporated Haines City (Johnson Ave & West Old Polk City Rd.) Area on Saturday, March 5, 2016.

Residents are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this pilot program that will consist of a large-scale trash pick up throughout the selected community (clean sweep). This program will provide disposal of items that are NOT generally collected with their residential garbage such as remodeling & household construction debris (shingles, drywall, etc.) on THIS DAY ONLY. All households are asked to participate by placing these items by the curb no later than 8 am for this one day event.
Absolutely NO tires or hazardous waste will be collected curbside.

Keep Polk County Beautiful will host a FREE Tire Recycling Event from 8am- noon at the Haines City Police Department, 35400 US Hwy 27, Haines City. For Tire Recycling limits and questions, contact KPCB before the event date. KPCB will be at this community event to answer any trash/recycling questions.

Trash collection services donated by Republic Services.

It is a violation of Florida Administrative Code Rules to transport more than 24 Waste Tires over public highways without a permit. Violation of this rule would constitute a 1st degree criminal misdemeanor and be punishable by a fine of not more than $10,000 and/or by 6 months in jail for further information please regarding the handling of waste tires please visit the DEP website http://www.dep.state.fl.us/ .

Lake Wales, Florida – On February 22, 2016 at 7:21pm officers were dispatched to 135 W. Central Ave, Family Dollar, in reference to a bicycle that was stolen. Officers learned the victim rode his black 26” Huffy bicycle to the store, parked it on the front sidewalk, and went inside to purchase a few items. When the victim went to leave the store his bicycle was missing. Security cameras captured the suspect in these photographs taking the bicycle while the victim was inside the store. PCSO Homicide Detectives Investigating Homicide of 33-Year-Old Tomorreio Clark of Winter Haven – Girlfriend Arrested

The PCSO Homicide Unit is investigating the homicide of a Winter Haven man, 33-year-old Tomorreio Clark of 3746 Imperial Drive in unincorporated Winter Haven, and arrested his girlfriend, 35-year-old Star Tribble of the same address, for Accessory After the Fact of Capital Felony (F-1), and Giving False Statement in Capital Felony Investigation (F-2).

Clark was found by Tribble’s adult daughter, deceased in his home on Tuesday, February 22, 2016 – the death was immediately ruled suspicious. The Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy, and ruled the cause of death gunshot wound of the head, and the manner of death homicide.

On Wednesday, February 23, 2016, PCSO detectives arrested Tribble.

She is being held in the Polk County Jail on no bond, and will have a first appearance hearing at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2016.

I chose this book because it explains how our spiritual journey as human beings changes as we move from the first half of life to the second half of life. Richard Rohr, the author, is grounded in the Bible and our rich Christian heritage. He writes in a way that is also accessible to those with little or no grounding in the Christian faith as well as to those who are lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. I found this book particularly helpful in allowing me to let go of the important aims and functions of the first half of life in order to welcome and embrace the unique challenges of the second half of life. Wherever we are on our journey, this book will help us better relate to our neighbors, wherever they may be in their walk with the Lord.
The book discussion will be held at two separate times: 12:00 and 5:30. Both sessions will be in Park Avenue Christian Bookstore, located at 218 E Park Ave. Coffee and refreshments will be served. Visitors do not need to have read the book prior to the discussion, although the books will be available at a discount for the event.

U.S. VeteranRicky C. Anderson, age 50, passed away suddenly Sunday, February 21, 2016 in Bartow. Born November 30, 1965 in Wauchula, FL , he was the son of Carlton and Louise Anderson. Mr. Anderson graduated from Fort Meade High School in 1984 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Meade and the Masonic Lodge of Fort Meade. He worked for over 26 years in law enforcement with the City of Fort Meade Police Department achieving the rank of Lieutenant and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, most recently with the Agricultural Unit . Ricky is preceded in death by his father, Carlton Anderson and his brother Kenneth Anderson. He is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of 14 years, Kerri N. Anderson, his son, Robert M. Anderson and wife Betsy, his twin daughters: Karley and Kinsey Anderson, his mother Louise Douglas, and his sister Stella Elouise Anderson all of Fort Meade, along with many loving friends and co-workers in the Fort Meade and law enforcement communities. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 25th from 5pm to 8pm at the First Baptist Church, 307 East Broadway in Fort Meade. Funeral services will follow on Friday, February 26th at 11:00am at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Polk Sheriff Charities.

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. To Make Lemon Filling: In a medium saucepan, whisk together 1 cup sugar, flour, cornstarch, and salt. Stir in water, lemon juice and lemon zest. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until mixture comes to a boil. Stir in butter. Place egg yolks in a small bowl and gradually whisk in 1/2 cup of hot sugar mixture. Whisk egg yolk mixture back into remaining sugar mixture. Bring to a boil and continue to cook while stirring constantly until thick. Remove from heat. Pour filling into baked pastry shell.
  3. To Make Meringue: In a large glass or metal bowl, whip egg whites until foamy. Add sugar gradually, and continue to whip until stiff peaks form. Spread meringue over pie, sealing the edges at the crust.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until meringue is golden brown.

Motorcyclist Allegedly Driving Recklessly Loses Control Suffering Catastrophic Injuries

Mulberry, Florida – Around 4:15 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016, according to witnesses and evidence, a black 2002 Suzuki motorcycle being driven aggressively and recklessly by 41-year-old Terry Cochran of Lower Meadow Road, Mulberry, was heading northbound on Kathleen Road approaching Falling Leaf Lane in north Lakeland, weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds, when Cochran lost control and slid into a steel guardrail. Cochran was wearing goggles but not a helmet. He was ejected from the motorcycle and propelled approximately 40 feet beyond the point of impact. He was transported to LRHMC as a trauma alert, where he suffered extremely critical injuries, and is not expected to survive.

Cochran does not have a valid Florida D.L. and has a suspended Kentucky D.L. He was arrested in August 2015 for operating the same motorcycle without a motorcycle endorsement. In his possession at the time of the crash was a pipe that field-tested positive for Meth. Initial blood testing at the hospital indicates Meth was in his system.

The northbound lanes of Kathleen Rd in that area were closed for approximately 4 hours during the crash investigation. Impairment and excessive speed appear to be factors in the crash. No other parties were involved in the crash.
