Lake Wales Arts Council Inc. Announces 42nd Annual Student Art Show Winners

"Many Faces, One Mood" Nancy Negrete, Grade 8 Best of Show 2010

Lake Wales, Florida - The Lake Wales Arts council, Inc. & the Lake Wales Art Show are pleased to announce the winners of the 42nd Annual Student Art Show Exhibit. This exhibit features local area student artwork and will be on display at the Lake Wales Arts Center in the Michael Crews Gallery from Saturday, March 26, 2011 through Sunday, April 17, 2011 with a closing Awards Ceremony from 4 to 6 pm.

This year’s Student Art Show showcases 13 elementary schools, including Alta Vista, Alturas, Babson Park, Dundee, Ben Hill Griffin, Eastside, Frostproof, Lake Marian Creek, Laurel, Polk Avenue, Ridgeview Global Studies Academy, Sand Hill and Spook Hill; 4 middle schools, including Bok Academy, Dundee Ridge, Frostproof and McLaughlin Fine Arts Academy; and 5 high schools including All Saints’ Academy, Lake Wales High, Frostproof, Haines City and Haines City International Baccalaureate. The participating students are in Kindergarten through Twelfth grade.  (More)

The Student Art Show has been judged by Beth Garcia from Lakeland, FL. Mrs. Garcia has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Austin Peay University and a Master of Fine Arts in printmaking from University of Wisconsin-Madison. In the past, she has been an adjunct professor at colleges in Tennessee and Illinois. For the last 12 years, Mrs. Garcia has been and is currently a Polk County art educator. She has two children; a daughter who is a graduate of MIT and a son who is a current student at MIT.
