Mayor To Proclaim May 17th “Lake Wales World Champion Day”

Lake Wales, Florida – In honor of the Lake Wales High School Spanish Team winning the World Language Competition, mayor, Mike Carter will proclaim May 17th “Lake Wales World Champions Day”. The mayor will do this at tonight’s City Commission meeting. Lake Wales High School’s Spanish Team beat out other schools to win first place at the World Language Competition held April 2 at Florida Southern College. Students on the team currently are enrolled in courses ranging from Spanish 1 to Advanced Placement Spanish. Teachers Lizzette Ortiz and Maria Portillo “coach” the students.
