    Polk County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team Helps Locate Suicidal Teen   At approximately 8:10 pm, on Thursday, December 18, 2014, Polk County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputy Jacob Durrance observed a vehicle traveling north on Highway 98 in Lakeland come to a sudden stop in the middle of a busy intersection.  A woman jumped from the car and ran toward Deputy Durrance’s patrol car screaming for help.   Deputy Durrance then saw a young male get out of the back-seat of the vehicle and begin running east through an open field toward a residential area.  The woman told Deputy Durrance the…

    Update: Two of the three employees exposed to the leak  were transported to the hospital. There were 100 lbs of ammonia released in the building. Progress Road is shut down as hazmat crews work to contain the leak, according to Auburndale Fire Chief Stuart McCutcheon.     Third Positive Rabies Case Confirmed   The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Section confirmed on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, the third positive case of rabies in Polk County for 2014.   On Thursday, December 11, 2014, a resident in the 8000 block of Holly Ridge Drive, Lakeland, observed her dog fighting with a raccoon in her yard.  The raccoon was shot and killed and PCSO Animal Control members responded.  The raccoon was impounded and sent to the State Laboratory for testing.  The raccoon was confirmed positive for rabies on Wednesday, December 17, 2014.   The dog was current with…

Lake Wales, Florida       On Tuesday December 16, 2014 at 9:12pm emergency responders were called to the scene of a traffic crash on Masterpiece Road near Mammoth Grove Road. Once there officers learned that a crash had occurred involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian.        During the investigation it was determined that Harold Massey, 66 of Lake Wales, was traveling East on Masterpiece Road approaching Mammoth Grove Road in his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 truck.
