Five Year Old Accidentally Left at Lake Wales Mall

Child Left at mall (500 x 243)

Lake Wales, Florida РAccording to police reports a 5 year old was accidentally left at the Lake Wales Mall, last Sunday October 20, 2013. Last Sunday evening mall security located a 5 year old child in the food court area of the mall. The child had apparently been left at the mall as no parents could be located. Within a short time a female called mall security and told them she believed her child had been left there by accident. She then returned to the mall immediately to claim the child. Once there she explained that she had been at the mall with other family members and her 7 children, including the 5 yr old. When the group left the mall they did so in 2 separate vehicles. She thought that family in the other car had the child and the family in the other car though the same.  When the mother arrived home she noticed the small child was not with them. She did not have her phone so she left her residence in Haines City and went to a phone where she called the mall.

According to reports investigators were called to the scene. It was determined  that the mother was visibly upset according to reports and there did not appear to be any intent to bring harm to the child. The child was released back to the mother and the Department for Children and Family services was notified to follow up.
