Mother Absconds With Two Children

Little, Kennedy 10-07-1997 Brown, Emily 07-19-2006 Brown, Barbara 02-05-1976

Update: Mother & Children Found Safe In North Carolina

Lake Wales Police Department is attempting to locate a mother and her two children she absconded with. Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) have been working an active case involving Barbara Brown, the 37 year old mother. Due to circumstances in the investigation on July 22, 2013 DCF obtained a court issued dependency shelter order stating the children were at risk to stay in Brown’s custody. DCF was to make contact with Brown and take custody of her two children, 7 year old Emily Brown and 15 year old Kennedy Little. DCF was unable to locate Brown and her children but were able to contact her on her cellular telephone. During the phone conversation Brown refused to disclose her location and ceased cooperation with DCF. It was at this point DCF contact Lake Wales Police Department.

Upon receiving the information from DCF the investigation was assigned to Detective William Raebig. Detective Raebig began his investigation by checking the last known address Brown and her daughters were living at 301 N Wetmore St in Lake Wales. DCF advised they last had contact with Brown at this location on July 17, 2013. Finding this residence no longer had anyone living there Detective Raebig began making contact with family members. He discovered Brown and her daughters have been in contact with family in the Polk County area; however none of the family members were able to provide Brown’s location. All leads which Detective Raebig has have been investigated and not led to Brown or her daughter’s location. It is unknown how Brown and her daughters are traveling.

Brown is aware of the fact Emily Brown and Kennedy Little are court ordered to be in the custody of DCF. This fact being supported by Brown’s previous instability, her lack of cooperation to reveal her location, and the inability to locate her; Emily Brown and Kennedy Little have been entered into a national system as missing endangered children. At this point Brown has not been criminally charged in this case but the investigation is ongoing.

Lake Wales Police Department is asking anyone with information on the location of Barbara Brown, Kennedy Little, or Emily Brown to contact Detective William Raebig at (863) 678-4223 extension 264 or Heartland Crime Stoppers at (800) 226-8477.
