Driver Killed In Highway 60 Crash Identified
Lake Wales, Florida – Polk County Sheriff’s Traffic deputies were busy yesterday investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred in Lake Wales yesterday morning, which resulted in one fatality. Preliminary information is as follows:
Around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2013, a red 2012 Chevrolet Impala traveling southbound on Mammoth Grove Road, crossed over the westbound lanes of SR 60 in an attempt to enter the median break and then turn left onto eastbound SR 60. For unknown reasons, the Impala entered into the path of a blue 2003 Dodge Dakota truck pulling a trailer with an ATV on it, which was traveling westbound on SR 60. The Dakota attempted to avoid hitting the Impala, but was unable to do so, and the vehicles collided and rotated, with the Impala coming to a rest in a drainage ditch on the south shoulder of SR 60 and the Dakota coming to a rest in the median of SR 60.
The driver of the Chevy Impala, an adult male from Miami, Nicholas John Martell, Jr. (DOB 8/6/48), was declared deceased on-scene. His passenger, also an adult male from Miami, Lawrence Stuart Forman (DOB 7/4/47) of Miami was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition. They were both wearing seatbelts.
The occupants of the Dakota were: the driver, 23-year-old Karen Vozniak of St. Petersburg; front seat passenger, 27-year-old James Vozniak of St. Petersburg; and their two children. They were all taken to Lake Wales Medical Center where they were all four treated for minor injuries and released. They were all four wearing their seatbelts.
Impairment on the part of either driver does not appear to be a factor.
