Young Auburndale Man Struck & Killed Last Night
Auburndale, Florida – On Monday, 4/30/2012 at 9:46 pm, The Auburndale Police Department responded to a vehicle fatality at the intersection of Highway 92 and Main Street. It was determined that a 2011 Ford F150 was traveling West bound on Highway 92 when the truck collided with two pedestrians crossing the intersection from south Main Street to North Main Street. One of the pedestrians, a white male was killed instantly and the second white male pedestrian was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with non life threatening injuries.
Matthew Kyle Kersey of Charles Avenue, Auburndale DOB 5/15/1992 was pronounced dead at the scene. Brandon Lee Burgett of Lime Street, Auburndale DOB 7/16/1991 was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Preliminary information received from two independent witnesses indicate the driver of the 2011 Ford F150 (Michael Alan Hunsinger of Lakeland) had a green light at the time of the crash. The witnesses advised that it appeared that the two pedestrians never saw the truck and walked into the path of the west bound truck. The vehicle crash has been turned over to the Traffic Homicide Unit for
further investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to call Corporal Roger Tribble with the Auburndale Police Department, 863-965-5555 ext 332

Matthew Kersey was one of my best friends…he will be greatly missed…There is no one on this Earth like him and I just wish he wasn’t taken from us.
My cousin, and an amazing person. He could bring a smile to anyone’s face and it was one of his biggest goals.
He was like a big brother to me, and meant the world.
Though this loss was great, and it’s hard for any of us to get over. Fortunate we are that another life wasn’t taken also. Brandon Burgett is still in the hospital and getting better every day. Matt is a lot better off where he is then he ever would be here, We love you, Matthew Kersey.
Matthew was like my brother… I’m going to miss him so much…. I cant believe this happened…. I wish it never did… Rest in paradise Matt I hope everything I do in my life pleases you and I hope your watching over me. <3
