Shooting Spree In Haines City Today
Haines City, Florida – On 04/29/2012 at approximately 0630 hours the Haines City Police Department received a 911 call in regards to a suspect (Devante Demetrius Foreman 08/17/1992) in a violent rage firing a weapon at 214 Remington Place (Chanler Ridge Sub Division).
The suspect woke up and physically attacked his mother (Karen Foreman) and his brother (Eric Borders). During the altercation, he pistol whipped his mother in the head and then had a violent physical confrontation with his brother. During this confrontation the mother and another female occupant of the house (Willie Johnson) were able to flee the residence. The brother of the suspect (Eric Borders) was then able to free himself from the physical altercation and fled out the front door.
At this point, the suspect armed himself with a fully loaded WASR-10 7.62 assault rifle and fired at least one round inside the residence. The suspect then walked out the front door and fired at least two more rounds across the street, striking an unoccupied vehicle parked in the driveway of 213 Remington Place.
The suspect then went around the corner and approached 914 Chanler Drive from the rear of the residence. The suspect opened fire into the rear sliding glass door which awoke the six occupants of this home. The suspect then entered the residence and told all occupants, “They better start Praying!” The suspect continued firing the assault rifle indiscriminately throughout the home.
Officers arrived on scene and immediately set up a perimeter around the residence. As the perimeter was being established, more shots were heard and a decision to enter the residence was made by the Patrol Sergeant, Jason Conger. As entry was being made the victims of the residence were observed escaping from bedroom windows, the front door, and from the rear door of the residence. The Officers were advised that the homeowner (Carlton Singleton Sr.) had engaged the suspect in a physical confrontation by holding onto the barrel of the weapon. When Officers gained entry into the residence, they located the homeowner and the suspect physically engaged with one another in the master bathroom.
The suspect was ultimately subdued and the weapon was secured.
Amazingly no victims from either residence were shot during this horrific sequence of events and only minor injuries were sustained by the mother of the suspect (Karen Foreman), and the brave homeowner from 914 Chanler Drive, Carlton Singleton Sr.
