Polk City 18 Year Old Dies When Dirt Bike Hit’s Car
Polk City, Florida – Around 8:40 p.m. on Monday, September 5, 2011, a red 2007 Honda dirt bike being driven by Jordan Ray Bryant, DOB 7-31-1993, of 4th Street in Polk City, with Dewayne Warren Lewis, Jr., DOB 7-18-1993 of 4th Street in Polk City riding on the back, was heading westbound on Wilder Road approaching Split Creek Circle. The bike does not have headlights on it.
Meanwhile, a 1997 beige Lincoln Mark VIII, being driven by Frederick Devon Tellis 44, of Split Creek Circle in Lakeland, was heading eastbound on Wilder Road, and attempted to turn north onto Split Creek Road to enter his subdivision. The car turned into the path of the dirt bike. The dirt bike struck the car almost head-on, ejecting both passengers.
Bryant was declared deceased on-scene. Lewis was taken to LRMC where he is listed in stable condition. Nobody in the car suffered any major injuries.
Neither of the boys on the dirt bike were wearing helmets or protective gear. According to witnesses they had been operating the dirk bike at high rates of speed up and down Wilder Road, without headlights. That area of the roadway is also not well-lit. Impairment does not appear to be a factor, and no charges are pending.
