Lakeland Man Arrested For Child Neglect After 19-Month-Old Ingests Illegally Obtained Methadone

On Friday, September 19, 2014, PCSO Special Victims Unit detectives arrested 34-year-old Shawn Cross (DOB 1/3/1980) of 5417 Rebecca Lane in Lakeland and charged him with one count Possession of Controlled Substance and one count Child Neglect. According to the affidavit (see attached), Cross purchased four methadone prescription pills from an unknown person and brought them home. He took one pill and put the other 3 pills in his dresser drawer. A 19-month-old baby in the house ingested one of the pills, and became very ill. The baby was taken to LRMC, where he tested positive for methadone, and was then transported to…

On Thursday, September 18, 2014, PCSO Computer Crimes detectives filed 24 counts of Attempted Possession of Child Pornography and 6 counts of Possession of Child Pornography against 36-year-old John Justin Middleton (DOB 5/5/1978) of 6306 Silver Leaf Lane in Lakeland. Middleton is currently in the Polk County Jail on drug-related charges. According to the affidavits, the investigation began on August 19, 2014, when PCSO detectives served a search warrant at Middleton’s home related to the possession of child pornography.
