    Frostproof Man Faces 4-15 Years After Pleading Guilty To DUI Manslaughter

    Bartow, Florida – Jury selection had just gotten underway in the DUI Manslaughter case against Heath Whitaker, DOB 11/25/1978, of Frostproof, yesterday when defense entered a plea of guilty. Whitaker was accused of killing his friend,  33-year-old Adam Walker of Frostproof in an early morning accident on December 15, 2011 (story here) .  Lab results returned to PCSO revealed that Whitaker had a blood alcohol level of 0.153 at the time of the accident. Sentencing has been set for August 14, 2014 and Whitaker faces 15 years in jail with a minimum sentence of 4 years.

On August 5, 1962, movie actress Marilyn Monroe is found dead in her home in Los Angeles. She was discovered lying nude on her bed, face down, with a telephone in one hand. Empty bottles of pills, prescribed to treat her depression, were littered around the room. After a brief investigation, Los Angeles police concluded that her death was “caused by a self-administered overdose of sedative drugs and that the mode of death is probable suicide.” Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jean Mortenson in Los Angeles on June 1, 1926. Lake Wales Care Center Hosted it’s First “Etiquette Eatery”

The Lake Wales Care Center hosted it’s first “Etiquette Eatery,” this summer, providing a place for students in B Street Community Center’s Summer Enrichment and Arts (S.E.A.R.) program to practice good manners in a social situation. B Street Community Center’s S.E.A.R. program is for students in grades 1-5. The program covers a variety of topics, including a tutorial on proper etiquette. The Care Center volunteered to prepare a nice meal in an elegant setting at First Presbyterian Church after the students completed this particular lesson, so they could put their new skills to use. UPDATE ON ACCIDENT ON HWY 27 AND CENTRAL AVE

Update on Accident reported earlier on  hwy 27 and Central Ave. in Lake Wales. There were three vehicles involved, a Semi, an SUV and a Pick-up truck with a trailer. There were a total of 4 people transported to local hospitals with injuries, none were life threatening.  The driver of the Semi and one other person were not injured. As reported from one of our loyal subscribers a Semi Truck rear ended the SUV and then side swiped the truck in this photo.

Lake Wales, FL – Nearly 90 Lake Wales area school students will be trekking to their first day of school on Aug. 18 with new backpacks stuffed with lots of new school supplies, thanks to the employees at Lake Wales Medical Center. The hospital held a backpack drive throughout the month of July to gather school supplies and backpacks. “Our employees enjoy a little friendly competition among departments, so we issued a challenge and offered prizes to the most creative displays,” said hospital CEO Andrew Howard. “As always, they came through with lots of donations and lots of creativity.” A…
