  • Barricaded Frostproof Man Apprehended After Shouting To Deputies To Kill Him

    Frostproof, Florida – Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 1300 Stokes Road, Frostproof, shortly before 10:00m pm, Wednesday, April 29, 2015, to investigate a report of a past occurred disturbance. Upon their arrival, 25-year-old Matthew Singletary told deputies his step-father, 47-year-old Robert Warren Kirkman, had attempted to stab him in the stomach during an altercation.  Deputies attempted to speak to the suspect who had barricade himself in the residence.  Kirkman refused to cooperate and instead shouted obscenities and shouted for deputies to kill him.       Update:  It has been confirmed that a man was struck by an AmTrak Passenger Train and was found deceased at the scene. More updates to come as they become available.     There is a train stopped near Bay Street  and Robarts Ln in Frostproof  near Sunray and Rescue Crews and Polk County Sheriff are searching for the person believed to have been struck by the train.  Please avoid the area we will bring you more information as it becomes available.

Davenport, Florida – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is currently conduction a traffic fatality investigation. The crash appears to have occurred sometime around 7:45pm. Donna Wood, public information officer for the PCSO, confirmed that a fatality did occur, but details currently were unavailable. Auburndale, Florida – According to the Florida Highway Patrol an accident occurred earlier this afternoon on US-92 involving a fatality. The Polk County Sheriff’s Animal Control Section confirmed on Friday, May 15, 2015, the first positive case of rabies in Polk County for 2015. On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, a dog owner living at 1600 Stokes Road in Lake Wales reported that her dog killed a raccoon on the patio area of the home. Polk County Sheriff’s Animal Control Officers responded to retrieve the raccoon’s carcass, which was then sent to the State Laboratory for rabies testing. The raccoon was confirmed positive for rabies on Friday, May 15th. The Florida Department of Health in Polk County has been notified of the exposure. The dog is not current on its vaccination and has been…

(Update)   During the investigation of the May 1, 2015, grand theft from Rural King Detective David Hernandez developed a suspect and was able to get a positive identification on him. The suspect, who is identified as 52 year old William Brooks of Lake Wales, was arrested on May 8, 2015 for the felony retail theft at Rural King. When Detective Hernandez attempted to interview Brooks he refused to answer any questions. Lake Wales, Florida – Shortly before 8:00 am, Wednesday, May 13, 2015, 66-year-old Michael J. Drenkhahn, Silver Spring Loop, Lake Wales, was operating a red, 2003, Kawasaki motorcycle traveling southbound on Stokes Road approximately one mile north of SR 60. Drenkhahn appears to have entered a left curve at too high a speed and locked up his rear brake in an attempt to slow.
