    Polk County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are conducting a death investigation this afternoon involving a pedestrian struck by an Amtrak train. Preliminary information so far is as follows: Just after 12:00 noon today, Monday, March 30, 2015, the Amtrak 98 Silver Meteor train from Miami to New York, which made its last stop in Sebring and was heading to its next stop in Winter Haven, was traveling along the tracks in the Big Sun Ray area in Frostproof just under the US 27 overpass (nearest cross street: Charles Street) when the conductor saw an adult male who appeared to be jogging…

    UPDATE: Pedestrian Struck by Train in Frostproof Near Bay St.

      Update:  It has been confirmed that a man was struck by an AmTrak Passenger Train and was found deceased at the scene. More updates to come as they become available.     There is a train stopped near Bay Street  and Robarts Ln in Frostproof  near Sunray and Rescue Crews and Polk County Sheriff are searching for the person believed to have been struck by the train.  Please avoid the area we will bring you more information as it becomes available.

    Frostproof Man Killed In Overnight Crash

    Lakeland, Florida  – March 22, 2015 at 3:10 a.m., the Lakeland Police Department responded to Parkway Frontage Road South at the intersection of Old Road 37 in reference to a single vehicle crash. The vehicle, 2014 Dodge Pick-up was traveling eastbound on Parkway Frontage Road South approaching the intersection of Old Road 37, which curves to the right. The vehicle failed to negotiate the curve striking the guardrail and then hit a tree. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by Polk County Fire Rescue/EMS. On April 19, 2015 at approximately 12:55 a.m. officers from the Lake Wales Police Department responded to 607 Booker Ave to investigate a report of the sound gun shots. Upon arrival officers learned there had been a physical fight at the address. The investigation revealed the victim was confronted at this residence by the suspect, Stedman D Hawthorne a 23 year old Winter Haven resident. The victim reported to police that Hawthorne was there to confront him over a female. The confrontation turned into a physical fight between the two. After fighting, the victim stated he ordered Hawthorne to leave…

Winter Haven, Florida – At approximately 8:00 am, on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Garden Grove Elementary School, 4599 Cypress Gardens Road, Winter Haven, after a report of a school clinic worker having a weapon on school property. The worker, 59-year-old Marvin Sizemore of Lake Wales, an LPN, was at the school as a substitute nurse for the clinic at the time of the incident.
